Ukrainian Village real estate
Ukrainian Village is part of the larger West Town community area of Chicago. Ukrainian Village is between Grand Avenue and Division Street on the North and Western Avenue (2400W) and Damen (2000W).
The neighborhood is an enclave of Eastern European ethnicity and has been for decades. The middle-class makeup has remained strong in the tight-knit community, with strong family ties to traditional ethnic institutions and congregations. Three well-kept and very ornate churches in the neighborhood are a throwback to the old country. East Village, just to the east of Ukrainian Village was formerly known as East Ukrainian Village and has much the same makeup.
The west side neighborhood, though, is not stuck in the past by any means. Amidst the mom & pop shops, the many churches, the gentrification of the west side has brought extensive rehab projects and new construction to the area, along with new residents.
Ukrainian Village is almost completely residential, with many 2- and 3-flats and single-family homes. Many of the brick and graystones buildings that were built early in the 1900s have survived and been renovated. There is also a significant amount of new construction infill of single-family high end homes and small apartment or condo buildings with 2 to 6 units.
There is significant dining and shopping opportunities in Ukrainian Village, primarily more modest family-run businesses you’re more likely to find in a residential area. There are, however, entertainment and nightlife options, some very trendy, within the village. And there are options of every kind in close proximity. Ukrainian Village is, after all, just south of Wicker Park and Bucktown, and not far from the West Loop.
