River North real estate
River North, as you might guess, lies north of the Chicago River. That is until the river winds to the north, forming the neighborhood’s western border. Streeterville, which borders River North at Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile, lies between River North and Lake Michigan, and to the north of the neighborhood is the Gold Coast and Old Town. River North is part of the official Chicago Near North side community.
In the last several decades, River North has turned from industrial red light district to artist’s haven to upscale, close-in city enclave. The neighborhood began its renaissance in the 80s when ad agencies, photographers and art galleries moved into the low rent loft space and shaped the River North Gallery District. As its reputation grew, in moved the hipsters and the developers.
Today, River North attracts an affluent and educated group to its wide selection of new and newer loft condo and condo and rental high-rises. You’ll also find vintage walk-ups and higher-priced single-family homes and townhomes. There is an incredible variety to River North real estate, with high-rises next to renovated industrial buildings, modern architecture and blocks of new multi-million dollar single-family homes. Most high-rises afford incredible views. On the south edge of the neighborhood, across the river from the Loop is River North’s newest gem, the 92-story Trump International Hotel & Tower. Like most well-kept and in-demand communities, you’ll pay a premium to live in most parts of River North.
In River North, ‘close to everything’ is an understatement. Aside from being so close to the Loop and the Lake, River North teems with activity and nightlife. The restaurant selections are vast, the nightlife is prevalent. Shoppers flock to the Magnificent Mile for just about any craving.
River North residents typically work nearby, and can jump in a cab or on the CTA Brown and Red Lines to get anywhere quick. And if you need to get out of town, the Ohio Street feeder ramp runs right into the center of the neighborhood and provides immediate access to all the major expressways.
