Bucktown & Wicker Park Homes for Sale | Community Info
Bucktown and Wicker Park are very similar neighborhoods that border on another. Each maintains it’s own identity, while still having much in common. Homes in these areas are similar, as well.
Bucktown is a popular, trendy and artistic community, complete with an artist colony named Gallery Point. Known for the Bucktown Arts Fest and Around the Coyote Festival, this neighborhood likes to demonstrate its creativity. A bustling downtown filled with shopping, galleries, dining opportunities, and a flourishing nightlife delights residents, as well.
Nestled between the Kennedy Expressway and Rockwell Avenue, and North and West Fullerton Avenues, Bucktown remains a small but revitalized neighborhood on the east edge of Logan Square. Homes in Bucktown are quite unique, varying from restored cottages and lofts to larger brick homes. Evidence of the historic Polish Bucktown, reportedly named after a male goat, known as a buck, and its pastoral beginnings are seen throughout the small community in century old structures and cobblestone paths.
Wicker Park is the neighborhood just south of Bucktown, northwest of the Loop, between North Avenue and Division, and the Kennedy Expressway and Western Avenue. Many of Chicago’s wealthy European residents and brewers built mansions in Wicker Park in the early 1900s, causing it to be referred to as “Beer Baron Row.”
Later the area became known as the Polish Downtown and eventually evolved into the ethnically diverse, urban, artistic neighborhood it is today. In 1991, a large portion on Wicker Park was designated as a Chicago Landmark District. Many buildings have been converted into lofts, and new and restored homes make Wicker Park a very attractive place to live. Famous for its artistic element, Wicker Park hosts an annual international “Around the Coyote” festival honoring its many local artists and galleries.
Homes in the Bucktown and Wicker Park area are very different from the rest of Chicago. Variable lot sizes have created a neighborhood where you may find a mansion situated next door to a cottage and even homes that include coach houses.
A variety of architectural styles can also be found within Wicker Park and Bucktown, from historic Victorian, Gothic and Mediterrean homes, to newly constructed and renovated lofts. Historic mansions in Queen Anne and Empire styles are located in Wicker Park, as well.
