Experience the excitement as teams compete in a fast-paced race along the Chicago River on beautifully decorated dragon boats at the 14th Annual Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy on June 28. The Chinese Dragon Boat Race dates back to over 2,000 years and is a popular sport amongst Chinese and Asian communities all over the world. Started in 2000, the Chicago Dragon Boat Race is a family-fun activity enjoyed by the residents of Chinatown and the surrounding neighborhoods.

The race is held at the beautiful and picturesque Chicago’s Ping Tom Memorial Park, with approximately 26 teams competing in this exciting and fast-paced boat tournament. The competition begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at around 5:00 p.m. with the Awards Ceremony. Opening ceremonies begin around 9:00 a.m. Admission is free for all. In addition to the boat tournament, this year’s event will feature other on-land spectacles such as live musical and dance performances, booth vendors and special guest appearances.

Founded in 1983, the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving the needs of Chicago’s Chinatown. Its mission is to improve business opportunities and to educate others on the history, culture and diversity of the Chinese American community.
